Tien Oscarnominaties voor Mank, Netflix domineert lijstjes
Mank
Vandaag zijn de Oscarnominaties bekend gemaakt. Grootste kanshebber is Mank, met tien nominaties, waaronder die voor beste film. De 93ste editie van het belangrijkste filmprijzengala ter wereld heeft ook nog een Nederlands tintje. In de categorie beste niet-Engelstalige film zijn de Nederlands-Bosnische coproductie Quo Vadis, Aida? en Deens-Zweeds-Nederlandse coproductie Another Round genomineerd. De Chileens-Nederlandse coproductie The Mole Agent schopte het tot de laatste vijf in de categorie beste documentaire.
Mank maakt onder andere kans op prijzen voor beste film, beste regisseur (David Fincher), beste acteur (Gary Oldman) en beste vrouwelijke bijrol (Amanda Seyfried). Zes nominaties per titel waren er voor The Father, Judas and the Black Messiah, Minari, Nomadland, Sound of Metal en The Trial of the Chicago 7. Promising Young Woman kreeg vijf nominaties.
Mank, over de scenarioschrijver van Citizen Kane, is niet de enige Netflix-film die genomineerd werd. In totaal haalde de streamingdienst 35 nominaties binnen, elf meer dan de 24 van vorig jaar, wat toen al de beste prestatie was voor Netflix tot dan toe. Alleen United Artists in 1941 (met 45 nominaties) en Miramax in 2003 (40) hebben ooit meer nominaties gekregen. Netflix-titels die dit jaar meedingen naar de prijzen zijn: The Trial of the Chicago 7, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Hillbilly Elegy, Crip Camp, Da 5 Bloods, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, The Life Ahead, The Midnight Sky, My Octopus Teacher, Over the Moon, Pieces of a Woman, A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon, The White Tiger, Song for Latasha en If Anything Happens I Love You.
