In their series The Thinking Machine, critics Cristina Álvarez López and Adrian Martin create a new video essay for Filmkrant every month.
For this special 100th anniversary of The Thinking Machine, Cristina and Adrian hand the creative reins to a live-in accomplice: their Teddy Bear. Teddy is, in fact, secretly the true auteur of much of this duo’s work.
Now Teddy comes out the shadow to make a statement about the representation of Teddy Bears in cinema. It is not a pretty picture: abandonment, violence, murder, dismemberment… After beholding a parade of such visions, Teddy asks a tough political question. But are we human beings strong enough to heed it?
